About Willick Law Group: A Las Vegas Family Law Firm Since 1985

For more than four decades, Willick Law Group has served as a Las Vegas family law firm focused exclusively on matters that affect families: divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, property and debt division, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, annulments, and the division of military and civilian retirement benefits. We are not a general practice that handles family law on the side. Every attorney, paralegal, and staff member at the firm works full-time in this area of Nevada law. Read more on our About Us page for the full firm overview.

Founded by Marshal S. Willick in 1985, the firm has grown from a solo practice into a team of attorneys and support staff who handle high-stakes Nevada family law cases together. Many of our clients come to us by referral from other lawyers, including out-of-state counsel who refer both foreign and Nevada-resident clients to a firm with the depth to manage cases involving complex assets, contested custody, or pension division.

What Sets Our Firm Apart

Prospective clients comparing Las Vegas family law firms generally evaluate four things: experience, credentials, capability, and reputation. Willick Law Group is positioned distinctly on each.

Forty years of Nevada family law experience

The firm was established in 1985 and has practiced continuously in Clark County for forty years. That tenure matters in family law: case strategy depends on knowing how individual Family Court judges actually rule, how local custody evaluators work, and how Nevada appellate decisions have shifted the landscape over time. That institutional knowledge is something a newer firm cannot replicate.

AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell

Willick Law Group carries an AV Preeminent rating, the highest possible rating for both legal ability and ethical standards in the Martindale-Hubbell peer-review system. The rating is awarded based on confidential evaluations from judges and other attorneys. See our awards and professional recognition page and our Avvo profile for the full list of recognitions.

National authority in Family Law, including military divorce and QDROs

Marshal S. Willick is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Family Lawyers, a Certified Family Law Specialist, and a former Chair of the Nevada Bar’s Family Law Section.  He wrote the Nevada Family Law Specialization exam. He has participated in trial and appellate cases in courts across the country, has drafted many state and federal statutes governing pensions and property division in divorce and the court rules governing Family Court, and is the author of many articles and several books, including the original treatise on military retirement benefits in divorce. See his published works for the complete bibliography.

Proprietary calculation tools used only at our firm

Over four decades the firm has built a suite of proprietary programs, collectively known as the MLAW tools, that handle the math behind Nevada family law cases and a database of every family law case, article, and other resource. The calculators include a child-support calculator, an interest-and-penalties arrearage calculator, and the Malmquistizer, used to value the community-property share of a separately-titled residence.

Practice Areas We Handle

Willick Law Group concentrates on the following areas of Nevada family law:

  • Divorce, including contested, uncontested, high-asset, and high-profile matters. See our Las Vegas divorce attorneys page.
  • Child custody, visitation, paternity, guardianship, and termination of parental rights.
  • Child support and spousal support (alimony), including establishment, modification, and enforcement.
  • Property and debt division under Nevada community-property law.
  • Division of military retirement benefits, a longstanding focus of the firm.
  • Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) and other retirement division orders for Civil Service and private employer (ERISA) pension and 401(k) division
  • Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, separate maintenance, annulment, and common-law marriage / palimony claims.
  • Family law appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court and the Nevada Court of Appeals.

Our Approach: Collaborative Team Representation

Family law cases rarely turn on a single courtroom moment. They turn on document discovery, on financial analysis, on appraisals, on custody evaluations, on motions practice, and on negotiation between hearings. For that reason, Willick Law Group represents clients as a team rather than as a single attorney working alone. A senior attorney directs the strategy, but paralegals, associates, and our in-house calculation specialists work together on the matter.

The team structure means that if your assigned attorney is in court, another attorney familiar with your case can take a call. It also means that complex cases involving pension valuation, business appraisal, or multistate custody jurisdiction get the right specialist on the right task. For high-asset or hotly contested custody cases, this is the difference between a firm that can handle the work and one that cannot.

Proprietary Resources Only Our Firm Offers

The MLAW Resources library is a suite of calculation and reference tools developed in-house over four decades of Nevada family law practice. The tools are used internally to model outcomes for our clients and, in some cases, made available to other practitioners through the firm’s published materials.

The current MLAW tools include:

  • MLaw Child Support Program for computing Nevada child-support obligations under the current statutory formula.
  • MLaw Interest and Penalties Calculator for child-support and spousal-support arrearage calculations.
  • Malmquistizer, the firm’s program for apportioning the community share of a defined-benefit pension.
  • Marshal Law (MLAW) Case Summaries, a working library of Nevada family law decisions and other resources tracked by the firm.

Few Las Vegas family law firms can produce this kind of internal analytical infrastructure. For high-stakes property division, pension division, or arrearage disputes, the tools materially change what a firm can offer a client.
