- [Alimony & Palimony](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/alimony-and-palimony/): Alimony and palimony are both forms of financial support paid by one spouse or partner to the other. The difference between the two is that alimony is support paid by a husband or wife to a spouse, while palimony is support paid by an unmarried partner to an unmarried partner. Palimony is also sometimes used as shorthand to describe the division of assets between unmarried parties.

- [Joint Petition Divorces](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/joint-petition-divorces/): Since 1983, Nevada has had some provision for "summary divorce procedures." By 1987, it had matured to the current Joint Petition (Summary Proceeding) law, for the stated purpose of simplifying the procedures for divorce when both parties were in agreement, and eliminating costly court proceedings for proper person litigants. Forms for such divorces are even posted on the self-help center's website.
- [Interest & Penalties](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/interest-penalties/): Any payments due for either child support or alimony become "judgments" by operation of law from the date they are due but unpaid. Other payments due (either periodic, or lump sum) do not have this automatic provision, and if they were not formally "reduced to judgment" in the earlier proceedings constitute unliquidated damages until the person owed the money returns to court to reduce those sums to judgment.
- [Guardianship](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/guardianship/): The guardian is in charge of making financial decisions for the person. Court approval is needed to spend or sell the protected person's assets even after the guardianship is granted.

- [Preliminary Matters and Motions](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/preliminary-matters-and-motions/): Some kinds of orders can be obtained immediately upon filing for divorce. The Joint Preliminary Injunction (JPI) is one way the Court can protect a party’s children and property rights.
- [QDRO Checkup](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/qdro-checkup/): For a flat fee of $100, the Willick Law Group - Las Vegas Divorce Lawyers will review any defined benefit or defined contribution QDRO for legal and mathematical accuracy. Many such errors can be corrected, and we will advise, if we find an error, what could be done to address it. We will do the same for Civil Service COAPs and military retirement division orders.

- [Termination of Parental Rights](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/termination-of-parental-rights/): A Nevada court can terminate the rights of a parent relating to a child, declaring that child free from the custody and control of either or both of his parents. In all such actions, the best interests of the child is the primary consideration, which is examined in conjunction with a finding of parental fault.
- [Uncontested Annulment](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/uncontested-annulment/): Annulment of a marriage entered into in Nevada does not require Nevada residency, while a divorce would require residency here of at least one party to the marriage.  The distinction is explained on our web site (see the Annulment page).  The fastest, cheapest, and easiest method for an annulment is when both parties to the marriage will sign supporting affidavits as to the "mutual mistake," etc., underlying the grounds asserted, but obtaining an uncontested annulment is often still possible if only one party participates – and the other does nothing.  Such cases can usually be completed without requiring any personal appearance by either party.
- [Nevada Family Law Appeals](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/appeals/): The WILLICK LAW GROUP maintains an active practice in appeals of family law cases, and has done so for more than 30 years. We sometimes appeal from, or defend against, cases in which we were trial counsel. More often, we are retained to prosecute or defend appeals that were handled by other law firms at the trial level. We are admitted to practice in the Nevada Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, the Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. - [Uncontested Divorce](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/uncontested-divorce/): A truly uncontested divorce can be issued within a week or two of the time the papers are completed and filed (judges vary a bit on how fast they process the paper; but it could be as little as a couple of days). The cost varies a bit depending on the procedure used (click the button to read our Joint Petition Divorces Page, which explains why we don't use that route). 
- [Spousal Support/Alimony](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/spousal-support-alimony/): Nevada law provides four basic kinds of alimony or spousal support that might be awarded in a divorce case: Temporary Spousal Support, Permanent Alimony, Temporary Alimony, and Rehabilitative Alimony. Each has its own utility according to the needs of each separating couple.
- [Separate Maintenance](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/separate-maintenance/): A "Separate Maintenance" Decree, sometimes (but improperly) called a decree of "legal separation," can determine and settle spouses' financial responsibilities to one another, and the possession and control of property.  Such a Decree can also specify the custody, visitation, and support of any minor children.  A Separate Maintenance Decree does not dissolve the marriage.

Retirement benefits are usually the most valuable asset accrued during a marriage. For this reason, whether and how to divide a pension plan in a divorce is critical.

- [Premarital, Postnuptial, and Separation Agreements](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/marital-settlement-agreements-post-nuptials-and-separation/): Nevada adopted the Nevada Premarital Agreements Act in 1989.  Premarital agreements (sometimes called "prenuptial agreements") executed before then are evaluated under the case law decided previously.  A premarital agreement must be in writing and signed by both parties, and can govern questions of property, debts, and alimony, during life and upon death. 
- [Paternity/Parentage](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/paternity/): In Nevada, paternity may be established in a legal action brought by natural person, or by the State. As a result of legislation mandated by the Federal government in 1996, paternity may be established by the mother and father executing an affidavit for the acknowledgment of paternity, which is often made available and signed at the hospital when a child is born. Sixty days after it is signed, an acknowledgment is "deemed to have the same effect as a judgment or order of a court."

- [NRCP 16.2](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/nrcp-16-2/): In light of the unique aspects of family law, the Nevada Supreme Court and a Committee of the Nevada State Bar Family Law Section proposed and implemented a dramatic new set of guidelines for the practice of Family Law in Nevada. Phased in over the second half of 2008, the new rule sets were designed to speed up litigation, increase transparency, reduce costs, and improve efficiency in handling caseloads. The rules include a uniform financial disclosure form and provisions for early case conferences to be presided over by the judges assigned to cases. It is expected that further changes will be implemented as experience is gained under the revised rule set.
- [Military Retirement Benefits](https://www.willicklawgroup.com/military-retirement-benefits/): The Willick Law Group has substantial experience dealing with military retirement benefits cases. Marshal Willick wrote the first textbook in this subject area, “Military Retirement Benefits in Divorce: A Lawyer’s Guide to Valuation and Distribution” for the American Bar Association in 1998, and has written articles and taught continuing legal education seminars on the subject for several decades.
